Although pot roast is a big favorite here in the US especially on a cold winter night, I don't recall having anything like this back in Japan. I found this recipe that calls for an unique blend of spices; cinnamon, cloves, all spice, and peppercorn. Stewed in a hearty red wine and tomato sauce, it resulted in a not-so-typical, but equally comforting Italian Pot Roast.
