Family Night

Before I get into my main topic for the day...

I have been dying to let you know how Rachid's business's been doing--his factory has been producing this rugged laptop line for Dell, but I have not had the permission to announce this until today.
I'm very excited that they finally published a press release and it's a definite go! Good job, Rachid, and we are all so, very proud of you!!

And those of you who congratulated us over the phone and/or came over and celebrated it with us tonight, thanks for being there for us. We are so lucky to have you guys as our friends and family.

When our boys turned 3 & 5 last year, we started having this thing called Family Night on Monday nights, where we discuss anything that we feel important to pass on to them. Last night's lesson was on a good person's characteristics, and I had a worksheet for each of them to fill in, asking what they think the most important characteristics in a person are.

This is what the boys said:
[Jay]
1. Acktev Lisning (Active Listening)
2. Lrne in School (Learn in School)
3. Obey
4. Be Gud (Be Good)

[Pucker]
1. Lisinz (Listens)
2. Ob-A (Obey)
3. Ben Gud (Being Good)
4. Tace Care of Mi Dog (Take Care of My Dog)

How amazing is it that they listed the same things 3 times out of 4?
And almost as equally amazing is how reflective the unanonymous quality was to each of their personality. For Jay, he's an very obedient person, and it is very important for him that he learns as much as he can at school, while our little Pucker is such a fierce animal lover that taking care of animals (especially dogs) would naturally rank high on his list.

After a little discussion together, here's the list we've collectively come up with:
1. Honest
2. Respectful
3. Caring
4. Brave
5. Responsible
6. Patient

I believe that it is important that my children understand that these qualities are not innate but achieved day in and day out instead and that it is never too late nor too early to work on your characteristics.

Do you have a Family Night like this?
I completely recommend doing this, especially if you have school-aged children...
